HHES Families:

We are excited to offer Transitional Kindergarten to 4-year-old students at Hockinson Heights Elementary. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a full-day preschool program. The goal of the TK program is to get each student ready for a successful Kindergarten year by providing a high-quality early-learning experience. TK students receive instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and social skills from a Hockinson teacher who specializes in early childhood education. Students participate in specialist classes, and attend lunch, and recess during the school day. If your student will be four by August 31, they may be eligible to attend Transitional Kindergarten at HHES. Families interested in having their child attend TK in the 2026-27 school year can complete the TK Interest Form for the 26-27 school year. Our office will call interested families to schedule a screening assessment appointment in late March or early April. Eligible students will be invited to register for TK after the screening assessment. Please note that due to state regulations, we are unable to offer boundary exceptions for the TK program.

The Washington State Legislature is currently considering changes to the TK program at the state level. We are confident that we will be able to offer TK next school year, but are awaiting additional information from the legislature on the number of classes we will be able to run. We will begin TK screening appointments in March and will continue with TK enrollment after the conclusion of the legislative session.

We look forward to welcoming our new hornet students to campus next year! Should you have any questions or if you need help with completing the interest form, please give our office a call at 360-448-6430. We’d be happy to help you!

Dear HSD Parents:

All HHES buses will be running approximately 20 minutes late today Thursday, Dec. 11. We regret that transportation for a field trip fell behind schedule. This delay will likely impact all HSD bus riders K-12.

We will send out additional updates should these delays change or if there is any other news relating to this issue.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

HHES families,

I wanted to follow up with you regarding the cougar sighting at Hockinson Heights earlier today.

We were joined today by officers from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Officers, accompanied by search dogs Shelby, Andy, Shy, and Della, performed an extensive search of our nature trail and field area. The officers determined that the cougar was no longer in the area of our campus.

As a precaution, we will continue indoor recess throughout the day and our staff will continue to monitor the campus. DFW has issued some recommendations for HHES to increase campus monitoring and to decrease the chance of an animal sighting in the future. We will be working with DFW to implement their suggestions.

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at HHES and we are grateful to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for their support. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
