HHS graduate Kyle Peterson made history - well 21st Century history, at least - on Wednesday, June 3. As far back as anyone can remember, Peterson put together the HSD's first elementary track meet. Peterson, a HSD AmeriCorps member, did not do it alone. His parents - renown runners and coaches themselves - along with HHS student volunteers and HHES staff volunteers, ran events across HHS stadium that brought smiles to participants' faces.
HHES students competed in three events: Running, Long Jump, and Javelin. And everyone went home with a ribbon!
HHES Principal Meredith Gannon loved seeing her students put forth their best efforts as well as the community rally on behalf of HHES students. In a Facebook post, Gannon wrote: "These Hornet athletes did a GREAT job! Huge shoutout to Coach Kyle for all of his hard work in organizing this event (and all the volunteers who helped with this event). And a HUGE thank you to all of our HHES staff who came out to coach and support our students. What a great day to be a Hornet!
HHES families will not have to wait for an answer to the question: "Will there be a HHES track meet next year?" Peterson, who is returning for a second year as a HSD Student Learning Partner, has already confirmed that he will organize another elementary track meet in 2027!
