HSD specialists sorting teacher materials for new math curriculum.

HHES has a new K-5 math curriculum. It's Amplify Desmos and school and district leaders think it could be a gamechanger in terms of mathematics instruction and student learning.

The HSD’s Instructional Materials Committee (IMC), consisting of Hockinson teachers, administrators, and community members, reviewed, piloted, and ultimately selected this curriculum from several other curricula. After School Board approval in April, the curriculum was ordered and received in late May, and is now being prepared for classroom delivery.

Josh Robertson, HSD's Director of Curriculum & Instruction, is excited about adoption. Why? "While some standardized curricula are later adapted to state standards, Amplify Desmos Math is a K-5 Mathematics program that was built from the Washington State Standards," explained Robertson. Also, unlike HHES’s current curriculum, which is worksheet-based and not directly aligned with math standards, Amplify Desmos combines hands-on math activities and digital content with real world application.

The purchase of learning materials such as Amplify Desmos is made possible by levy dollars. Thank you, Hockinson! We are excited to see the impact this improved curriculum will have on student learning!
