HHES swingset

While the recent announcement of the February 2025 Bond has put a focus on future facility improvements, our commitment remains to maintaining our current facilities in the here and now. Case-in-point: Earlier this month (when it was still sunny) Operations Supervisor David Wilson replaced the seats on the swings at Hockinson Heights Elementary School.

While there is only so much you can say about a swing seat, we can say this for sure: The old seats put the “hard” in hardware. So the new pliable seats have to be a lot more comfortable than the old ones! So we hope our elementary students appreciate the new ride. But while these rubber seats are an upgrade, they have the same drawback as the originals: They aren’t waterproof…nor are they heated. However, they are still good for some good old-fashioned outdoor fun.

Little acts of maintenance, such as replacing burned out lamps, repainting walls, and repairing broken equipment add up to create a big cumulative impact on our facilities and campus. They create a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment inside and outside our schools. Maintenance is a constant, ongoing commitment that also controls cost and communicates to our students and our community that we care about students - and we’ve discovered that when students feel respected, they respond in kind by respecting our schools!

We could not do this work without the support of the Hockinson community. Funds from our 2022-26 EP & O Levy are a critical resource that make these improvements possible and keep our schools in tip-top condition.
