Dear HSD Parents:

All HHES buses will be running approximately 20 minutes late today Thursday, Dec. 11. We regret that transportation for a field trip fell behind schedule. This delay will likely impact all HSD bus riders K-12.

We will send out additional updates should these delays change or if there is any other news relating to this issue.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

HHES families,

I wanted to follow up with you regarding the cougar sighting at Hockinson Heights earlier today.

We were joined today by officers from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Officers, accompanied by search dogs Shelby, Andy, Shy, and Della, performed an extensive search of our nature trail and field area. The officers determined that the cougar was no longer in the area of our campus.

As a precaution, we will continue indoor recess throughout the day and our staff will continue to monitor the campus. DFW has issued some recommendations for HHES to increase campus monitoring and to decrease the chance of an animal sighting in the future. We will be working with DFW to implement their suggestions.

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at HHES and we are grateful to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for their support. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

HHES Parents:

We want to make you aware that this early this morning I received a report of a cougar in the field behind the school. This sighting took place before school when no students were on campus. Out of an abundance of caution, we will move recess indoors today and will contact our partners at the Department of Fish and Wildlife for additional guidance.

We want to thank our HHES staff for their prompt reporting and action to ensure our students’ safety.

Kindness Week 3
Dear HHES Parents:

I wanted to follow up with you regarding the cougar sighting at HHES earlier today.

Three officers from The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife joined us this afternoon to search the forest along the northern edge of our campus. After their two dogs (Shelby and Andy) performed an extensive 45-minute search, the officers determined that the cougar was no longer in the area. As a precaution, though, tomorrow we will keep students within the bounds of our upper playground. No students will be allowed to go to the lower fields or campus fringes. HHES staff will monitor the campus throughout the day.

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at HHES and we will continue to follow our HSD safety protocols and to adapt as new circumstances arise. We want to thank the Department of Fish and Wildlife for their assistance in keeping our campus safe for our hornet students. Please feel free to reach out to me or Mr. Olson if you have any questions or concerns.

DFW Officers with Shelby and Andy

HHES Parents:

We want to make you aware that this morning Mr. Olson and I received a report of a cougar in the field behind the school. We immediately moved recess indoors and contacted the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

We have initiated a modified Hold protocol for the remainder of the school day. All recesses will be held indoors and movement between school buildings will be limited for the rest of the day. We have staff members monitoring the field area where the animal was spotted. The Department of Fish and Wildlife will be sending support staff to our campus to assist us.

We want to thank our HHES staff for their prompt reporting and action to ensure our students’ safety. At this time, we anticipate that school will remain in session until regular release time today and that school will be in session tomorrow.

I will update you as additional information becomes available.
