During the week of November 8-12, 2021 schools across the country will celebrate National School Psychology Week (NSPW) Week to highlight the important work that school psychologists do to help all students thrive. In Hockinson, we take this opportunity to thank our amazing School Psychologists: Deana Kahn, Stef Anderson, and intern Rebekah Sauvola.
What does a School Psychologist do? School Psychologists do not provide therapy like a general psychologist. They work with students, their families, and teachers to identify student learning needs and intervene at the individual and system levels by developing, evaluating, and modifying services to meet those diverse needs. School Psychologists work to ensure equal access to effective educational and psychological services that promote student learning and healthy development.
This year’s NSPW theme is "Let’s Get in GEAR." (Grow, Engage, Advocate, Rise). The theme’s acronym - GEAR - speaks to the challenge of finding and implementing resources and best practices so children can access mental health and learning supports. The GEAR theme has particular relevance this year as we work to help students, families, and school staff emerge from the challenges of the past year and a half. When we get in gear, we move together to create positive synergy that builds and becomes greater than any single effort.
Thank you Ms. Kahn, Ms. Anderson, and Ms. Sauvola for gearing up our supports for kids!
