Summer Learning

Summer Learning

This summer, we hope that each student enjoys time with their family and has lots of fun. We also hope that your child will continue learning throughout the summer months. To help your child continue learning all year long, we have compiled some summer learning resources for you.

iReady: Your student can access their iReady account for reading and math practice this summer. Their work is based on their last iReady assessment. iReady reading is available through July 30 and iReady math is available through August 14.

Lexia Core 5 Reading: If your student just finished grades K - 2, they are eligible for an account with Lexia Core 5 Reading. This online reading tool provides differentiated reading instruction in a fun format. If you would like to have an account set up for your child, please email cary.delbridge@hocksd.org. She will be checking email throughout the summer and will get back to you with more information.

Daily Reading: Encourage your child to read for 20 minutes each day. Reading promotes brain and language development. Students who read 20 minutes per day starting in Kindergarten will be exposed to nearly 2 million words per year and outscore 90% of students on standardized assessments.

Writing Prompts / Journaling: Studies show that writing daily helps students to build their phonemic awareness and phonics skills and bolsters students' ability to express themselves.  Ask your student to keep a journal about their summer activities or to write to a prompt throughout the summer months. Encourage your child to expand upon their ideas and add illustrations to their writing.
