Welcome to HHES

Letter from HHES Principal Meredith Gannon:

I am delighted to be returning to Hockinson Heights Elementary this year! I have been a part of Hockinson School District for six years. I served as the HHES Assistant Principal for four years and have been the Principal at Hockinson Middle School for the past two years. I am excited to be back and to be working with our young learners once again!

At Hockinson Heights Elementary, we strive to help every student reach their full potential and are committed to academic excellence. To do this we model and promote a growth mindset, foster joyful learning, create strong relationships, hold ourselves to high standards, and provide opportunities for critical thinking. Our vision is that all students are proficient in reading by the end of second grade and maintain proficiency through the end of 5th grade. To help every student reach this goal, our teachers provide lessons with multiple paths to success and give students choice in how they demonstrate their learning. Students are also taught about the importance of having a growth mindset and to critically think so that they can continually grow as learners.

We want every student to love their experience at Hockinson Heights Elementary. Our staff strive to create a safe and welcoming environment where every student can thrive. We support our students’ social-emotional learning through daily class meetings and a schoolwide focus on positive character. Our students learn that Hockinson Hornets show R-S-R (responsible, safe, and respectful) behavior and practice kindness in their school interactions. At HHES we hope that our Hornet scholars take part in after school activities. We offer a variety of options to appeal to all students, including Math and Science Olympiads, Student Leadership, Garden Club, STEM /  Robotics clubs, Solar Car building, and several parent and staff run clubs.

One of the things that makes our Hockinson community so amazing is the participation of our family and community members in school life. We encourage members of our community to join us at HHES by volunteering in a classroom, attending a school event, by joining our PWT (People Working Together) family organization, or by leading an afterschool club.

We look forward to a wonderful school year.

Go Hornets!
