2022 Hockinson Levy: A Path to a Bright Future for Students!

Last Updated: 12/3/2021 2:46 PM

Hockinson School District voters will decide on a four-year replacement levy funding measure on February 8, 2022, which supports important programs and services for students like sports, band, and other extracurricular activities; transportation; additional school nurse, security, teacher, and custodian salaries not funded by the state; and special education staff.

For three consecutive years, the Hockinson School District has made reductions in an attempt to balance its budget.  This has resulted in operating at levels that are not sustainable to meet the expectations of our students and community.  For this reason, the Hockinson School Board is asking the community to approve a four-year replacement levy at a rate of $1.89 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The levy makes up roughly 10 percent of the overall Hockinson School District budget and helps to bridge the gap between what the state of Washington funds and the actual cost of operating a school district.

The Feb. 8, 2022 Educational Programs and Operations Levy will ensure that the HSD continues to:

  • Educate and support every child through a variety of academic offerings, extracurricular opportunities, and socioemotional learning programs.

  • Provide Early Learning & enrichment opportunities such as Transitional Kindergarten (new in Fall 2021!), the HHES Literacy Initiative, interest-based clubs, internships, Advanced Placement and Career & Technical Education classes, and College in the Classroom.

  • Operate efficiently, safely, and responsibly. The 2019 EP & O Levy Rate was $1.50/100k, the second-to-lowest in Clark County. While our district could have collected more, it honored this rate. Despite our efficiency efforts and pursuit of grants and partnerships, the HSD has had to make three consecutive years of reductions in programs and personnel in an effort to balance its budget.

  • Be the heart of the community through an array of school activities and service events, partnerships with local businesses and organizations, vibrant Community Education classes and programs, and outdoor and indoor facilities that are open to the Hockinson community.
